The Turner Prize is a contemporary art award which was set in the year 1984 in order to celebrate new developments in the field of contemporary art. This award is hosted every year and is awarded to a British under fifty for his exclusive and outstanding exhibition or other work presentation. This exhibition is exhibited by shortlisted artists. The nominations can be seen for this biggest art award before the winner is decided in December. At the exhibition the recent art world from four shortlisted artists is on display thus, giving a chance to visitors to look at these amazing art works.

The prize highlights the achievements in cutting edge contemporary art; moreover, the profile of upcoming artists in the UK is raised. The total prize fund for this year’s competition is £40,000. For the overall winner, the prize money decided is £25,000 and the rest £5,000 each will be going to the three runners up. As far as the highlights of the 2009 exhibition is concerned, the artists works include sculptures, drawings, paintings, films and other mediums are all represented in this exhibition. Moreover, the special highlights of the show include the work done by artists using unusual materials to create sculptures and installations.
Tickets and Visiting Information:
The opening hours of the event are as follows: Tate Britain opens daily, 10.00-17.50 and the exhibition timings are: 10.00-17.40 (last admission 17.00). As far as the entry fee is concerned, the fee is £8. Moreover, tickets for various special exhibitions hosted at Tate Britain can be bought at Tate Britain seven days a week starting from 10.00 to 17.00. On Friday and Saturday you can get the tickets with late opening until 21.00. No booking fee is taken when tickets are bought in person at the galleries. For Members, Patrons and children under twelve when accompanied by an adult there are no entry charges.
