The Turner Prize is a contemporary art award which was set in the year 1984 in order to celebrate new developments in the field of contemporary art. This award is hosted every year and is awarded to a British under fifty for his exclusive and outstanding exhibition or other work presentation. This exhibition is exhibited by shortlisted artists. The nominations can be seen for this biggest art award before the winner is decided in December. At the exhibition the recent art world from four shortlisted artists is on display thus, giving a chance to visitors to look at these amazing art works.

Moreover, tickets for various special exhibitions hosted at Tate Britain can be bought at Tate Britain seven days a week starting from 10.00 to 17.00. On Friday and Saturday you can get the tickets with late opening until 21.00. No booking fee is taken when tickets are bought in person at the galleries. For Members, Patrons and children under twelve when accompanied by an adult there are no entry charges.

Originated in the year 1215, and established for the Lord Mayor to be showcased to the Sovereign for sanction, the journey of Lord Mayor from the City to Westminster has gradually evolved into a full show and parade, constituting all approach of Londoners and officials in celebration of London’s present, past and future.


The 2009 procession

The event will comprise of over 6,000 people in total, comprising of about hundreds of vehicles, marching bands, floats and carriages combined in a processional train which is about 3 miles in length. Make the most out of this unique opportunity in the form of Lord Mayors Show, to see a grand possession in London, following through a special track across the city that begins at Mansion House and ends at St Pauls Cathedral. The beginning of the procession will be triggered by an aircraft flypast.


Centuries of tradition

Over a period of 800 years, this event has walked through the blitz, the Black Death and more and it has been over the first event to be on live television broadcast. The show to be held this year is estimated to attract about half a million people to the London streets, with more than three million watching the live occasion on their television sets.
